Resources

The university library houses in microform and hardcopy significant collections of primary and secondary materials that support research in local, state, regional, national, and international topics. Among the holdings are the archives of the Supreme Court of Louisiana, the records of the New Orleans Parish School Board, and the papers of Marcus B. Christian, a noted regional African American poet, teacher, and printer.  Off-campus archives include The Historic New Orleans Collection, the Amistad Research Center, Louisiana Division of the New Orleans Public Library, the Louisiana State Museum, the Law Library of Louisiana, and the Notarial Archives of the City of New Orleans. For more information on archives and holdings, see Research Resources in the New Orleans Area.  All UNO graduate students can also use libraries in the local consortium, including the libraries at Tulane, Xavier, and Loyola University.  For more information see the UNO Library website.

In addition to this website, the History M.A. Handbook for graduate students also provides basic information for graduate students regarding degree requirements, deadlines, course scheduling, and graduate assistantships. It also provides checklists to assist students in tracking their progress.

For questions about the graduate program, contact the graduate coordinator, Dr. Mary Niall Mitchell, at molly.mitchell@uno.edu or by phone: (504) 280-1208.
